“Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”  John 2:10

In ancient times, table wine was usually prepared by adding water to thick, syrupy wine. The last wine served at Cana’s wedding feast, however, was made from water only! How could this be? The servants filled jars with water. However, when it was served, it was wine! The wedding celebration continued because Jesus had performed a miracle. (Read about this in John 2:1-11.)

When we stay close to Jesus and follow His direction, we have the privilege of seeing His power and His miracles close up. We can best serve God and each other when, like the wedding servants, we simply do what He asks of us. He turned water into wine, and He will supply our needs in His own unique way. God attends our wedding celebrations. He is with us long after the party ends. We have reasons to celebrate every day as we present our needs to Him, do as He directs, and then watch for the marvelous ways in which He uses His power to bless us.

Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary – Heavenly Father, you raise up leaders for your Church in every age. We praise you for leading Prof. Earle Treptow to accept the call to serve as our seminary’s next president. Fill him with joy as he leads the seminary faculty in carrying out its mission of preparing future pastors who are faithful to your Word. Give President Treptow a humble spirit that seeks to serve you and your kingdom and fill him with the wisdom needed to carry out his duties in a way that always glorifies our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • We join Tom & Barb Ade in praying for Tom’s safety this coming week. Tom is having surgery early Monday morning for his second carotid artery, similar to the procedure done previously. Guide the doctors who do the surgery and allow Tom to recover well.
  • We request your protection and strength for Scott, son-in-law to John & Sandy Beecher, has been suffering seriously with kidney complications.  He and his wife lost a teenage son a few years ago.  Remind them of your love.
  • As Dave & Krissy Awe bring their daughter Morgan Awe to baptism, bless them alongside her as she is cleansed by water and your Word and declared a part of the family of God by her spiritual adoption.  As you have invested your power into this sacrament, create and sustain faith within her little heart.
  • On Friday your blessed Jayson Wetzel  and Samantha Pipkorn at your altar.  Becoming husband and wife, they declared their vows before you and sought your presence in their family.  Stay with them through all the years and let your love grow in their relationship.
  • Lord, we rejoice with Mark & Stephanie Boeckman at the birth of their son, Cal Peter. We are thankful that both Steph and Cal are doing well and ask that you grant continued joy and strength to these parents as they raise their children in the knowledge and understanding of your gracious love and will.
  • With Dianne Robertson we approach your throne of grace on behalf of her godmother, Ruth Sitz, who lingers in hospice.  Lord grant Ruth the divine sturdiness of faith, which we will all need one day as you call us into our eternal home in heaven.  Bless her final days on earth.  Be with her children Jenny and Jeff and their families as they let go and let you bring her a new and lasting life.
