Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word: 2017-2018 School Year

“Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word” is taken from the hymn with the same title that was written by Martin Luther during the time of the Reformation. In support of that theme are the words of John 6:68 where Peter answers his Savior with an absolutely true and concise expression of faith,

“Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”

This was at a time when Jesus questioned whether any other disciples wanted to also leave him, as many already had.  This was because Jesus’ teaching was hard for some and it offended many of the spiritual leaders of the time. Peter responded by stating that there is no other person who can earn eternal life for us.  What a great reminder for all that God’s Word is the only source of truth for eternal life!  Peter even goes on to clarify who that Word of eternal life is with a simple confession of faith in John 6:69,

“We believe and know that you (Jesus) are the Holy One of God.”

We pray that, as we go through this school year, God would indeed keep us steadfast in His Word and let that Word guide and direct our thoughts and hearts each and every day that we hear it.

God’s richest blessings on our teachers, parents and students as we work together under His grace and secure in His Word of truth!

Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word;
Curb those who by deceit or sword
Would seek to overthrow your Son
And to destroy what he has done.

Lord Jesus Christ, your pow’r make known,
For you are Lord of lords alone;
Defend your Christendom that we
May sing your praise eternally.

O Comforter of priceless worth,
Send peace and unity on earth.
Support us in our final strife,
And lead us out of death to life.
