New this week – August 19, 2020

Dear Friends,

A simple request… We seek your continued prayers for our church and school leaders, and leaders everywhere, who continue to prayerfully make decisions for churches and schools while navigating through changing and challenging times. May God grant them wisdom as they wade through varying resources and opinions concerning school openings, worship services, Bible classes and other activities. And may God grant kindness, patience, and Christian love to all those impacted by these decisions. May all our interactions foster unity and encouragement as brothers and sisters in Christ.

*Please note that this is the second of two publications of NEWS TO NOTE in August.

Gift Card Collection for our Newly Installed Staff and Their Families

As a welcome gift for our new teacher Mrs. Amanda Gronholz, principal Mr. Jonathan Hahm and pulpit assistant Pastor Mike Hintz and their families, we will be collecting Scrip gift cards for them. We will be selling Scrip gift cards for this collection for the next 3 Sundays (August 23, August 30 and September 6). We will then present the gift cards to them. There is a wide variety of gift cards from which to choose. Here is a sampling of some of the cards available – Target, Meijer, Roundy’s, Sendik’s, Home Depot, Menard’s, Piggly Wiggly, Culver’s, Pizza Hut, Papa Murphy’s and Papa John’s.  When ordering Scrip, please let us know which cards are for this collection. You can also mail or drop off a cash donation for Scrip gift cards at either the church or school office. If you choose to write a check, it must be payable to “Our Savior Scrip.”

Sunday School and Teen Class News

Please note that a plan is being formed to offer an alternative option for Sunday School! We are looking into providing an entirely different approach from what we normally offer. It will change how we group the students, where they meet, and what activities are included to allow the students the recommended social distancing space and yet keep them engaged during the Sunday School hour. In addition, the start date and frequency of classes will also be adjusted. The first session of Sunday School will likely begin on Sunday, October 4. We plan to invite our teens to assist with our modified Sunday School rather than attend a regular weekly teen study. Watch for more details later in September.

Special Voters’ Meeting

A special Voters’ meeting has been called for Sunday, August 30, at 11:45 am (in the Church) to consider motions related to the teacherage roof, church mortgage loan, Covid-19 items, school accreditation items and other budget adjustments.

Church and School Picnic Update

Please note that our annual church and school picnic will not be held this summer. We look forward to the time when this and other on-site fellowship events can again take place. Thank you for your understanding!

Offerings

Thank you for your financial support of God’s work at Our Savior through your offerings, whether placed in the plates while at worship, dropped off in the church office, directly mailed from banks, or given online through Vanco or through Vanco’s mobile giving app GivePlus Church.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (Colossians 3:12-14).
