    March 25th Prayers

Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.  Matthew 4:10b

As the family was getting ready for a Sunday outing at the lake, the young daughter asked, “Are we going to church first?” “We can worship God at the lake,” Dad replied. After a moment, his daughter questioned, “But will we?”

As Christians, why are we to set aside a special time for worshiping God? Basically, because He directs us to in His Word. Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only (Matthew 4:10b). Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name … (Psalm 96:8a).

Making time to worship God is still our choice, so why bother? Truthfully the question should really be “Why not bother?” How can God’s people help but take time to worship Him? Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you (Psalm 63:3). For the Lord is good and his love endures forever … (Psalm 100:5a). Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name (Psalm 100:4).

Worship is more than a Sunday morning duty. It is a daily loving response to our mighty and loving God. (more…)

    Thursday, April 5th Service Location

Please note that due to some Stucco repair in the church we will be holding our regular Thursday 7:00pm worship in the Fellowship Hall on April 5th.  Sunday worship will be in the church.

For Maundy Thursday – Think ahead for next week:   Mediator of a New Covenant.

“No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.” His name “the Lord” emphasizes God’s free and faithful love. People in the Old Testament knew God’s love, but the fullest revelation of it lay in the future. In his Word and as we observe Lent, we are blessed to have seen the greatness of God’s love as he offers his Son unto death for our sins. We know the glory of God’s saving love. Let us grow in that knowledge and show the world what we know.

For Lent 6 – Think ahead for next week:   He Makes Us into Priests

Jesus was correct when he proclaimed himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life—no one could come to the Father except through him. Unlike the old veil that blocked the way to God and sealed the entrance to God’s presence, Jesus opens the way, inviting sinners to enter God’s presence. “Come to me,” he says, “all you who are weary and burdened” (Mt 11:28). And he promises, “Whoever comes to me I will never drive away” (Jn 6:37). All who come to the Father by faith in Christ—trusting that the sins they committed in thought, word, and deed, and the sins they could not get rid of by themselves are paid for in full—find free access to God.

    Prayer Circle – March 18, 2018

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction … (2 Corinthians 1:3-4a).

It’s amazing how much comfort an infant can get from sucking on a pacifier or a thumb. Crying ceases, calm prevails, and, hopefully, sleep is just around the corner.

God knows it isn’t appropriate for us adults to walk around with a pacifier in order to cope with the daily stresses of home, work, and family so He has given us the Comforter: His Holy Spirit. He provides comfort as we grieve and when we are in distress. His ultimate comfort is the enlightening words of the Gospel: we have been reconciled with God through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Thinking about eternal life with God puts our momentary stresses into perspective! So cling to the Holy Spirit as an infant clings to a pacifier. Remember He is with you wherever you go. When we look to God for comfort, our crying will cease and calm will prevail. (more…)
