    May 20, 2018 Prayers

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.  Psalm 37:23-24

One of the lesser-known meanings of the word graduate is “to take a step.” Graduation is a step forward; a step into the unknown. Graduation is a day to celebrate, to look back on where one has been over the past years. It is a day to remember the best of times. It is also a day to look forward and wonder what is ahead.

What is the next step? What will be encountered on that step? While we never know for certain what the future holds, we do have God’s assurance that we can confidently take each step along the path knowing He is with us and in us. It means never stepping out alone. We have God’s promise, “The steps of a man are established by the LORD … the LORD upholds his hand” (Psalm 37:23a, 24b).

So, we pray for all who are beginning a new phase of life, to hold fast to the promise through faith in Jesus Christ. The Triune God goes hand in hand to lead you or your loved one. We pray that you may be confident that as you step out into the world with Him, that He will hold you with His mighty hand.

Ministerial education schools – Father in heaven, today we ask your blessing upon all those who graduate this month from our synodical schools: Martin Luther College, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Luther Preparatory School, and Michigan Lutheran Seminary. Bless these graduates as they enter a new phase of their lives as your witnesses, especially those receiving divine calls into the public ministry. May your wisdom and strength be with them in all that they do for the glory of your name. Amen. (more…)

    May 13, 2018 Prayers

Oh, how the Psalmist longed to worship in the house of God! Some circumstance kept him away for some time and he was even envious of the birds, who nested near his place of worship!

He wrote, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young – a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you (Ps. 84).

God grant us the same fervor to regularly worship him and receive the rich blessings of his grace through Word and Sacrament!

Puerto Rico – Gracious God, today we ask your blessing upon the new disaster response coordinator being called to serve and work with the pastors of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Church of Puerto Rico. May this pastor bring the comfort of the gospel to the people of this hurricane-devastated island as he helps identify and prioritize specific needs, plans construction and repair projects, and coordinates volunteer efforts. Bless also his efforts in overseeing the continuing theological training for two men whose training was interrupted by Hurricane Maria last fall. May all he does be done to your praise and to the glory of your name. Amen.

How about strong faith, comfort in God’s promises, confidence in God’s love and care, assurance of God’s forgiveness, appreciation for receiving Christ’s true body and blood, and joy in serving their Savior! Sounds like a great list for all of us!
